Sims 4 age and death cheats
Updated PC, Mac, Xbox, PlayStation
No command sets a Sim's age, and every death is a ghost trait you can take off again.

Every age and death cheat
Change a Sim to another age
No command sets a life stage directly. Both routes go through Create a Sim or the shift-click menu.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandcas.fulleditmode | What it doesUnlocks every field in Create a Sim, including the age selector, for any Sim you open afterwards. | NotesThe console prints nothing when you enter it. Follow it with a shift-click on the Sim and choose Modify in CAS, then pick the life stage you want. | |
CommandShift-click a Sim, then Age Up | What it doesAges that Sim up by one life stage, in place, with no trip through Create a Sim. | NotesOne stage per click and it only goes forward. To go backwards, use cas.fulleditmode. On PlayStation hold Circle and press X; on Xbox hold B and press A. |
Switch death off
One toggle, and a moodlet clear that can pull a Sim out of a death that has already started.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commanddeath.toggle true | What it doesOne half of the toggle EA documents as enabling and disabling death. | NotesThe guides disagree about which value does which. EA prints the pair without saying; PC Gamer describes the command as the way to save your Sims from death, and SnootySims describes it as the way to turn death off. Enter one value, test it on a Sim you do not mind losing, and use the other if you guessed wrong. | |
Commanddeath.toggle false | What it doesThe other half of the same toggle. | NotesSee the note above. Which of the two switches death off is not settled by the sources. | |
Commandsims.remove_all_buffs | What it doesClears every moodlet on the selected Sim and returns them to a neutral mood, which cancels a death that an emotion is in the middle of causing. | NotesThis is the emergency brake for death by hysteria, embarrassment, anger and the other emotional deaths. It also wipes the moodlets you wanted to keep. |
Ghost traits, base game
Equip one and the Sim becomes that ghost. Remove it and they live again.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandtraits.equip_trait anger | What it doesGhost, death by anger. | Notes | |
Commandtraits.equip_trait ghost_embarrassment | What it doesGhost, death by embarrassment. | Notes | |

Commandtraits.equip_trait ghost_cowplant | What it doesGhost, eaten by a Cowplant. | Notes |

Buffs and stats that cause a death
These push a living Sim toward a death, so it plays out in game.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandsims.add_buff Buff_Hysterical | What it doesPushes the selected Sim toward death by laughter. | Notes | |
Commandsims.add_buff Buff_Mortified | What it doesPushes the selected Sim toward death by embarrassment. | Notes | |
Commandsims.add_buff Ghostly | What it doesMakes a living Sim a ghost for a few hours, then wears off on its own. | NotesA temporary state, not a death. Nothing to undo. | |
Commandstats.set_stat commodity_Vampire_SunExposure -100 | What it doesEmpties a vampire's sun exposure meter, which kills them on the spot. | Notes | |
Commandsims.add_buff BurningLove | What it doesReported to give a Sim a high chance of starting fires for a few hours. | NotesOnly one of the guides checked for this page lists it, and the same goes for stats.set_stat commodity_Buff_BurningLove_StartFire 7 and the fire.toggle on and fire.toggle off pair. Treat all three as unconfirmed. |
Bring a Sim back
There is no resurrect command. Resurrection is the ghost trait coming off again.
| Command | What it does | Notes | Copy |
|---|---|---|---|
Commandtraits.remove_trait <ghost trait> | What it doesRemoves the ghost trait and returns the Sim to life. Use the same trait name you equipped, or the one matching how they died. | NotesSelect the ghost first. If you are not sure which death type they carry, open them in Create a Sim with cas.fulleditmode and look. | |
Commandsims.get_sim_id_by_name <FirstName> <LastName> | What it doesPrints the numeric identifier of a Sim, a pet or a horse, which the pet commands need. | Notes | |
Commandtraits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge <PetID> | What it doesTurns the pet with that identifier into a ghost. | NotesGet the identifier from sims.get_sim_id_by_name first. | |
Commandtraits.remove_trait Ghost_OldAge <PetID> | What it doesBrings that pet back to life. | NotesPC Gamer words this one as something you should also be able to do rather than as a confirmed result, so test it on a save you have backed up. |
If these cheats do nothing
- Check the master switch. Every command here needs
testingcheats true. - Select the Sim first.
traits.equip_trait,sims.add_buffandsims.remove_all_buffsact on the Sim you have selected. - Own the pack. A ghost trait from a pack you do not have is rejected.
- Watch for a stray space. A space ends the argument, so type the trait exactly.
- Expect no confirmation.
cas.fulleditmodeprints nothing. Shift-click a Sim and look for Modify in CAS. - Still stuck? Sims 4 cheats not working goes through the causes in order, and the UI Cheats troubleshooting guide covers the mod itself.
Xbox, PlayStation and achievements
testingcheats truedisables Achievements and Trophies for the save you are in. Other saves keep theirs.- Xbox: hold RB, RT, LB and LT together.
- PlayStation: hold R1, R2, L1 and L2.
- Shift-click becomes Circle plus X, or B plus A.
Age a Sim up or down
- One stage forward: shift-click the Sim, choose Age Up.
- Any stage:
cas.fulleditmode, then Modify in CAS.
There is no aging command
aging.toggle, aging on and aging off are Sims 3 commands. No current source documents any of them working in The Sims 4.
Aging is a setting instead. Open Game Options, go to Gameplay, and find Auto Age, where you can switch aging off for played Sims, unplayed Sims or both. It applies to the whole save.
sims.Set_Age belongs in the same bin. It gets quoted constantly and appears in none of the sources checked for this page, EA's own cheats documentation included. The trait codes that full edit mode exposes are on the Sims 4 trait cheats page. On a controller, the shift-click menu is Circle plus X on PlayStation and B plus A on Xbox.
Switch death off with death.toggle
death.toggle trueanddeath.toggle false.sims.remove_all_buffsstops a death under way.
Why clearing buffs works
EA documents death.toggle as a true or false pair without saying which value does which. PC Gamer reads it as the way to save Sims from death, SnootySims as the way to turn death off. Death by laughter, embarrassment, anger and the other emotional deaths all run on moodlets, so clearing every moodlet ends the countdown.
It clears the moodlets you wanted to keep as well, and drops the Sim back to a neutral mood. That is the price of the emergency brake.
Ghost death types and resurrection
traits.equip_trait drownmakes a drowned ghost.traits.remove_trait oldagebrings that Sim back.
Pack deaths, and the one with no cheat
Ghost_Lightning and Ghost_Frozen need Seasons, Vampire_Sun needs Vampires, and trait_Ghost_SecretPassageway, the cuckoo clock death added in 2026, needs Royalty & Legacy.
Without the pack the game rejects the command. Enchanted by Nature adds Death by Emotional Overload for fairies, and PC Gamer says there is no cheat for it: a fairy has to soak up Overload moodlets until Enraged, Hysterical or Mortified fires.
sims.add_buff Ghostly is the harmless one. It makes a living Sim a ghost for a few hours, then wears off with nothing to undo.
Resurrection, and pet ghosts
There is no resurrect command. Removing the ghost trait is the resurrection, so use the trait that matches how the Sim died. If you cannot remember it, open the ghost with cas.fulleditmode and the death type is listed in Create a Sim.
You cannot select a pet the way you select a Sim, so pet commands take an extra argument. Run sims.get_sim_id_by_name with the pet's first and last name, and the console prints the pet's identifier.
Then traits.equip_trait Ghost_OldAge followed by that number turns the pet into a ghost, and traits.remove_trait Ghost_OldAge followed by it brings the pet back. PC Gamer words the second half as something you should also be able to do rather than a confirmed result, so back the save up first.
What UI Cheats does here

Age: better than the console
- Right-click the age bar in Simology.
- Add or subtract days, or set the total.

Death: the console only
- Killing a Sim is not in the feature list.
- Ghost ranks need Life & Death.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make my Sim younger?
Enter testingcheats true, then cas.fulleditmode. Shift-click the Sim, choose Modify in CAS, and pick the life stage you want from the age selector. That is the only route that goes backwards. The shift-click Age Up option moves forward only, one stage at a time.
Is there an aging cheat?
No. aging.toggle, aging on and aging off are Sims 3 commands, and no current source documents them working in The Sims 4. Aging is a setting rather than a cheat: Game Options, then Gameplay, then Auto Age, where you can switch it off for played Sims, unplayed Sims or both. sims.Set_Age is in the same category and is best avoided.
How do I change days in a life stage?
The console has no command for that. The UI Cheats Extension does: right-click the age progress bar in the Simology panel and you can add or subtract days spent at the current life stage, or change the total number of days the Sim has lived. It is a PC and Mac mod, so on console you are limited to full life stage changes through Create a Sim.
How do I turn a Sim into a ghost?
Select the Sim, then enter traits.equip_trait followed by the ghost trait for the death you want, for example traits.equip_trait drown or traits.equip_trait oldage. A recent patch also added ghost death types directly to Create a Sim, so with cas.fulleditmode on you can pick one there instead.
How do I resurrect a Sim?
Take off the ghost trait they are carrying: traits.remove_trait followed by the same trait name, for example traits.remove_trait oldage. None of the sources behind this page document a separate resurrect command, so be sceptical of anything that claims to be one.
