Q: How do you reach the top of a career?

Enter careers.promote <career> once for each level. Nothing jumps straight to level ten, so press the up arrow and Enter to repeat it.

Q: Why does the console reject the career?

Almost always the internal name. Writer is adult_writer , Politician is activist and Athlete is athletic . Check the pack is installed too.

Which Sim the command acts on

Every careers command acts on whichever Sim you have selected, so click that Sim before you open the console. Unlike modifyrelationship, there is no way to name a different Sim.

Spellings that catch people out

Writer is adult_writer, not writer. Athlete is athletic. Style Influencer is styleinfluencer, one word. Guides disagree on the first and the last, so the table lists both spellings.

Discover University's three careers are the messiest set. PC Gamer gives the short names (Education, Engineering, Law); Ultimate Sims Guides gives longer forms such as careers_Adult_Education. Start short and try the longer form if the console rejects it. Degrees and organisations are on the university cheats page.

Two after-school activities from Discover University, careers_Volunteer_SoccerTeam and career_Volunteer_E-Sports, appear in one guide only, as does the career_Teen_Highschool variant. Treat all three as worth a try rather than as documented commands.

The Actor career needs Get Famous, and fame points, celebrity rank and quirks are on the fame cheats page.

There is no career command for Businesses and Hobbies. That pack adds small-business ownership rather than a career track, and you set renown and alignment from the shift-click menu instead.

Career branches have no codes

Why branch names are listed

The game asks which branch to take when the Sim gets there, and the same command carries on up it. The branch names in the table tell you what that prompt will offer. They are not something you type, and any cheat list that prints a code per branch is repeating something no source can confirm.

The console cannot move a Sim from one branch to the other. The UI Cheats Extension can.

How UI Cheats does it

University, Noble Favor and retirement

The same panel sets a work reputation bar from -100 to 100 and removes a workplace rival.

With Discover University installed, right-click the degree icon or the green Course Schedule title bar to change a Sim's grade point average, right-click a course icon to set that course's grade from 0 to 100, and right-click the suspension or probation text to clear it. Right-clicking the Noble Favor meter sets its rank, which needs the Royalty and Legacy content.

Retirement from the panel arrived in v1.57. The mod is PC and Mac only, because consoles do not load script mods, and it has to match your game version. The install guide covers the setup.
